E-Panther
$20.00
Extra Wing $15.00
60"
wingspan, 8" Chord with Ailerons, 25-30 oz. flying
weight. 2 to 8 hours to build this low cost, powered glider!
This
foam kit is optimized for thermal gliding activities as
it is equipped with a flat bottom airfoil. Installing a
geared 400 motor and a folding propeller provides awesome
performance! This plane is ideal for those who want to do
a bit more thermal flying while still having a power assisted
take-off! Float around, then power it back up to altitude
several times per charge- even without catching thermals!
Feel free to customize the plane! Use some or all of the
60 inch wing, and put as little or as much dihedral as you
want. Add Ailerons for better control!
Panther
was designed by Dean Thomas, leveraging his years of experience.
The Panther's pink foam fuselage, reinforce with balsa sheet
provides a VERY tough aircraft. This is essentially the
same plane as the Panther Thermal Glider except the front
of the aircraft has been altered to support the geared speed
400 motor and 8 cell KAN 950 battery pack.
Kit
includes Foam wing cores, foam fuselage and emailed instructions.
See below for other necessary components. Requires a 3 or
4-channel radio for rudder, elevator, and motor control.
Ailerons and/or spoilers are optional so a low cost 3 channel
radio would work great. Our sample planes use generic 9
gram servos, but could use larger HS-81 class servos.
This
is a Semi-Kit.These are the materials you will need to complete
this kit and must be purchased separately
Radio: 2 or 3 Channel, 2 to 4 servos depending
on builder preference. HS 81sized servos. Aileron version
needs at least 3 servos, tailfeather only version needs
only 2.
Wood: 1/16 balsa sheeting to glue on sides
of the fuselage. 1/8 sheeting for control surfaces. A hardwood
spar is need to stiffen the wing. Use 1/4" x 1/2"
Spruce sticks. 1/32" or 1/16" hardwood sheeting
(or aircraft lite ply) is recommended for re-enforcing the
nose.
Motor: Geared speed 400 with a folding
prop works well. We have tested with the Sky Scooter Pro
II power system with Great success!
Battery Pack: 8 Cell, 950/1050 NIMH KAN
cells that can deliver 25 amps +.
Controller (ESC): Depending upon motor.
For speed 400, need at least 15-20 amps.
Covering: Fiberglass strapping tape (about
10 feet), 2 rolls of different colors of 2 mil packing tape
OR 2 different colors/rolls of iron-on covering. Econokote
and Towerkote work well. Ultracoat is heavier but is supposed
to work as well.
Misc hardware: Control Horns, and Linkage
for the Servos. Try to use 1/2 A or Micro hardware as full
sized hardware is unnecessarily heavy.
Adhesive: Many glues workwell, these are
some of the more popular: Elmer's White Glue, 5-6 minute
epoxy, Gorilla Glue, Hot glue gun
Misc tools: Yardstick, Extra soldering
iron for cutting hatches in the foam fuselage.
