BLITZ
400 $20.00
Extra Wing $10.00
36"
wingspan, 8" Chord with Ailerons, 17-28 oz. flying
weight. 2 to 6hours to build this low cost, high excitement
kit! This foam kit uses a proven design and a great symmetrical
wing (SD8000 airfoil). Excellent for a R/C pilots who are
buying their 2nd plane, although experts will love the zippiness
of this kit. Lots of thrust when equipped with Cobalt or
Mega Brushless. The Blitz will fly with direct drive or
gear box. Our most fun so far has been direct drive with
a 6 x 5 APC prop.
Includes
Foam wing cores, foam fuselage and emailed instructions.
Requires a 3 or 4-channel radio for ailerons, elevator,
rudder and throttle. Rudder is optional, so a low cost 3
channel radio would work great. Our sample planes use generic
9 gram servos, but could use larger HS-81 class servos.
The BLITZ really flies great and gets rave
reviews from those who build and fly her. Many builders
love the fact that they can use the BLITZ as a base for
other designs- kitbashing is easy!
Club discounts are available. This design
is great for a club ONE-DESIGN pylon race. The plane is
very lightweight and easy to assemble. Some clubs have assembled
these planes in just one evening, ready for the next day's
contest. For super fast assembly, some people have skipped
the fuselage doublers, for a little less durability. Speeds
are fast with a speed 400, but slow enough for everyone
to be able to fly her. Put a Mega or a brushless and your
ready for the QUICKIES 400.

This
is a Semi-Kit. These are the materials you will need to
complete this kit and must be purchased separately
Radio: 3 or 4 Channel, 2 to 4 servos depending
on builder preference. HS 81 size servos. Best method is
to use 2 aileron servos mounted in the wing, and one elevator
servo mounted near tail.
Wood: 1/8 sheeting for control surfaces.
A hardwood spar is need to stiffen the wing. Use 1/4"
x 1/2" x 36" Spruce stick. Optinally, 1/16"
balsa sheeting to glue on sides of the fuselage.
.
Motor: Wattage 400 Cobalt works will direct
drive with 6x5 APC prop. Some builders have used Speed 400
motors, geared 480s, and Mega brushless. Colbalt 400 is
about $35.00 and is a reasonable balance between performance
and cost.
Battery Pack: 8 Cell, 1700+ NIMH AA cells that can deliver
25 amps +. Sanyo 4/5 AUP 1700NIMH are perfect for this plane.
Controller (ESC): Depending upon motor.
For Colbalt 400, need at least 25 amps.
Covering:
Fiberglass strapping tape (about 10 feet), 2 rolls of different
colors of 2 mil packing tape OR 2 different colors/rolls
of iron-on covering. Econokote and Towerkote work well.
Ultracoat is heavier but is supposed to work as well.
Misc
hardware: Control Horns, and Linkage for the Servos.
Try to use 1/2 A or Micro hardware as full sized hardware
is unnecessarily heavy.
1/16 balsa sheeting to glue on sides of the fuselage.
Adhesive:
Many glues workwell, these are some of the more popular:
Elmer's White Glue, 5-6 minute epoxy, Gorilla Glue, Hot
glue gun
Misc tools: Yardstick, Extra soldering
iron for cutting hatches in the foam fuselage.
